GSi ECHO B2 is the digital recreation of a particular unit of Binson Echorec B2 mod. T5E from 1965. This unit, despite being so old, still has its original tubes and has had very little service in the last 30 years. We don’t know how this unit sounded when it was new, but this is how it sounds today, in 2022. It has to be said that the Echorec B2, despite being less famous than its big brother the Echorec 2, shares with it the same magnetic drum, the same magnetic heads, same mechanism and pretty much the same circuitry, practically the same sound in a more compact unit. There are several sources of information about vintage Echorecs, this is the Echorec Bible. The plugin features all controls found on the original unit, plus 4 extra knobs for adjusting the alignment of each head (aka Azimuth on tape machines), one extra knob to slow down the drum motor up to half the normal speed (to obtain doubled delay times) and one last knob to adjust the level of audible circuit hiss.

Analog Modeled Italian Magnetic Echo Plugin.

Echoes T7E is a faithful recreation of a vintage tube magnetic echo made in Italy in the early ‘60s. This echo effect unit is based on a magnetic spinning drum with both record and playback heads arranged around a recording wire wound around the drum circumference. This solution provides better stability over the usual tape transport with reduced wow and flutter. Since the main “core” of this effect is based on the above mechanism, we modelled both the mechanics and the electronics. Echoes T7E also provides 3 different playback modes allowing you to set different spinning speed or ever synchronize it to your host tempo extending the original delay length from ~310ms up to ~1100ms.

The Ech0rec is a software emulation of the iconic echo/delay unit of the same name produced by the Italian brand Binson in the 1960s. The sound of this magnetic disk delay differs from the tape delays used at the time, and has largely contributed to the audio signature of many 70s bands: Pink Floyd, The Shadows, Jimmy Page etc. Vintage Ech0rec devices are known for their saturation, self-oscillation, and oversound, all shaping the music produced in the 70s. They are also, however, known to be fragile and difficult to maintain. The Ech0rec plugin gives you a faithful emulation of this legendary echo unit; furthermore, many workflow improvements have been added to the original, such as the ability to change the motor speed (and so the delay time) in real time or to sync it to any tempo, including a tapped tempo. Three different units, in different conditions, have also been precisely modeled, to have all sounds from the cleanest magnetic delay, to the most grunge. These additions and the signature sound of the Binson Ech0rec 2 make this echo a must-have tool for any mixer who wants to add the subtle analog life, which is sorely lacking in digital delay plugins.
