Welcome to the Music Producer’s Guide to Mixing! This is the complete guide to helping you get perfect, professional-sounding tracks, no matter what music you make, and is brought to you by the experts at Computer Music magazine. It used to be the case that you could only really get a professional-sounding mix after years of experience working in a ‘proper’ recording studio with a (often huge) hardware mixing desk. Nowadays you get all of that mixing power – plus a lot more besides – in your software DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). So if you use one of the many DAWs out there – Cubase, Logic, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Bitwig Studio. Tracktion Waveform, or one of many more – then this guide is for you, and you already have everything you need to create perfect mixes on your PC or Mac.

    HiDERA | 19 October 2023 | 2.85 GB

With such a wide range of audio effects on offer when producing, it can seem like a monumental task as a beginner to figure out what they all do! This course aims to make that task infinitely simpler by guiding you through all of the most popular effects, broken down into the main categories and with a plethora of examples to help with both understanding and putting them into practice. The course begins by explaining what an insert effect is and the concept of serial processing, before going into some of the main reasons for applying effects, including changing the timbre of a sound, making its level more consistent and placing it into a virtual space to add extra dimensions to the mix.

    Beginner’s Guide to Music Theory

    FANTASTiC | 10 May 2020 | 913 MB

With so many producers today approaching the art without any classical training in music, composing tracks with more melodic elements can be a challenging task. This course is designed to help students with little to no knowledge of music theory get a solid grasp on the basics, to help with creating quality basslines, leadlines, hooks and riffs in their music. Going right from the very start, with a guide to the different musical notes, Rob then progresses onto the most popular scales, showing how they can be figured out and played in various ways, depending on your preferred workflow. These skills are then applied into some lengthier lessons that provide basic guidelines for making basslines and melodies. Subsequent lessons then introduce students to polyphonic accompaniment, with simple intervals and chords, including the major and minor triads in their regular, transposed and inverted forms. All techniques are shown in practice along the way, through the construction of various phrases inside projects, including a guide to building your own chord progression. There’s also a lesson dedicated to arpeggios, showing what they are and how different MIDI tools can be utilised to create engaging rhythmic sequences.
