Custom Strings. Incredible Sounds

We partnered with our master luthier and designed an instrument from scratch looking for new sounds, new timbres, new possibilities of sonic fulfilment, and we created Circle Strings.  Circle Strings is a peculiar instrument that can produce sound in every possible way – bowing the strings, plucking the strings, hitting the instrument, etc. Anything is possible; the secret is in the resonance of its sympathetic box. Everything started when we decided that looking for new sounds was the way to go. We called our master luthier and designed an instrument with experimentation in mind.

Disco Strings 2 is an emotive collection of orchestrated string sections guaranteed to make your productions stand out from the crowd. These authentic instrumental sounds will fit perfectly into any House, Disco, Funk, Soul and RnB track. A total of 60 string ensembles have been recorded here in two musical keys. Disco Strings 2 contains uplifting melodies, dramatic stabs and soulful chord progressions – with all the nuances, overtones and harmonics that only real instruments can bring. Pete has captured a sublime mix of Cellos, Violins and Violas, which have each been recorded with tremolos, glissandos and vibratos to add depth and character to the recordings. You will find full mixed versions of the arrangements that areready for direct use in your DAW, as well as the individual stripped down stems to combine and arrange how you see fit. The whole session has been recorded at the Classic Disco tempo of 120BPM making them also useful for House producers looking to add an air of sophistication and style to their productions.

Garritan Orchestral Strings GiGA

Gary Garritan took violin lessons as a child and later studied the harp as a teenager, providing the inspiration for creating GigaHarp, a sample library that helped put GigaSampler on the map in 1998. However, returning to his first instrument, Gary decided that none of the existing string libraries were good enough and resolved to create his own. The resulting achievement is an 8GB library on 16 CDs (or 2 DVDs) devoted to reproducing the performance nuances of orchestra-sized string ensembles — a vast and ground-breaking piece of work. The recording sessions took place over a two-week period at New York’s Lincoln Centre using a hand-picked team of string players with priceless instruments, including a couple of Stradivaris — the Rolls Royce of the stringed instrument world. The 47 musicians were divided into 22 violins (also split into 12 first and 10 second), 10 violas, eight cellos, and seven double basses, and were recorded using B&K, Neumann, and Crown microphones into an Apogee A/D converter at 88.2kHz/24-bit.

World Series: Gadulka Strings

‘World Series: Gadulka Strings’ is the latest in this series of packs that feature compositions from all over the world, performed using rare and unique instruments. This pack contains high quality recordings of Gadulka, suitable for film, advertisements and music productions. These traditional compositions were performed by a professional Gadulka player and recorded using Schoeps CMC 6 phantom powered amplifier and Colette Modular Capsule from two different positions. The Gadulka is a traditional Bulgarian bowed string instrument. It has three (occasionally four or five) main strings with up to sixteen sympathetic resonating strings. Only the main melodic strings are touched by the player’s fingers and the strings are never pressed all the way down to touch the neck.  The instrument is held vertically, with the bow held perpendicular in an under-hand hold. A possible origin of the Gadulka may be the Crete Lira (Crete Island), Calabrian Lira (Italy) or the Kemenche strings (Turkey).

Around 30 instruments were captured and I’ve tried to draw upon a number of basic synthesis methods including divide down/formant, classic subtractive, DCO, digital FM and additive as well as capturing some tube synth textures from three vintage synths. Synths included the DK Synergy and ultra rare Mulogix Slave-32, Rhodes Chroma, Octave Cat Voyetra-Eight, Farfisa Syntorchestra, ProphetVS, Elka Synthex, Oberheim OB-X and Matrix 1000, Korg PS-3100. Tube synths included the Hammond Novachord, a Jennings Univox J6 and a heavily modified Cordovox CG-1.
